Alejandra has several years experience working in the International Development sector, across different non-for-profit organisations, including the Swedish Red Cross and UN Women. Alejandra's work focuses on managing projects on women’s empowerment and gender equality, designed to advance women’s safety and security and civil and political participation. She has worked in several countries including: Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, PNG, Australia and now Sweden.
Alejandra is originally from Colombia, she enjoys taking long walks in the forest and fikas, and has a surprising talent for winter activities.

In this short presentation, Alejandra Pineda, a second year Uppsala Rotary Peace fellow, will be sharing her personal experience of what it means in practice to work on women's empowerment projects and why improving women's lives remains such an important task in both developed and developing countries.
